Frequently Asked Questions About Manufactured Stone Veneer:
What is manufactured stone?
Manufactured stone is a lightweight and less expensive alternative to real decorative stone.
It looks and feels like real stone, providing the natural stone look you want at a fraction of the cost.
Can manufactured stone be placed over brick or other materials?
Yes, it can be installed over almost any material including brick, stucco, concrete, and wood.
Will my wall have to be reinforced to support manufactured stone?
No, manufactured stone is lightweight and can be installed without reinforcement.
Do I have a choice of colours?
Yes, there are many colours and styles to choose from, so you can find the perfect look to compliment your exterior decor.
Is the stone weatherproof?
We prepare the surface with building paper and install flashings to ensure all of our outdoor rock installations are properly sealed for weather protection.
Can I use a sealant?
Yes, you can apply a concrete sealant with a Siloxane base to protect the stone and make the color look more vibrant.
Sealant is available in high or low gloss and can be sprayed on or applied using a paint brush. High gloss sealant makes the stone look wet.
What should I use to clean my stone veneer?
We recommend using plain water or a vinegar and water solution with a soft to medium bristle brush.
Will the color in the stone fade?
Manufactured stone veneer may fade very minimally, over many years. An advantage of our stone over many others is that
we dye the stone all the way through and not just on the face, which helps reduce fading.
How do I get mortar/grout off the face of the stone?
If mortar drips onto another stone, wait until the mortar is dry, then brush it off with a dry whisk broom.
If mortar gets on the face of the stone and you try to remove it immediately, there is a chance you will stain the stone.
It is best if you can leave it anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes (depending on humidity and temperature) so that it starts to set.
At this point you should easily be able to "flick" it off. If anything remains after removing the mortar, you can use a soft bristle brush.
However, do not leave it on the stone to dry over an extended period of time. Eventually the mortar can bond with the stone which will make removal very difficult or impossible.
